What the Ice Allows You to Take
Meaning: Sustenance Earned Without Excess
Draconic Roots: Grauth (taking by strength), Velk (sustenance), Yin (restraint, balance)
Grauth Velkyn is not an economy. It is a discipline of survival. In Khazrath, resources are not owned in the abstract; they are won, measured, and accounted for against the winter to come.
Nothing here is plentiful. Nothing here is treated casually.
Velk-Grauth
Taken Sustenance
- Whale-Oil: Primary heat source and industrial fuel. Rendered under strict quotas. Loss through spoilage is treated as civic failure.
- Glacial Iron: Dense, cold-forged ore extracted from ancient ice-bound veins. Difficult to work, prized for resilience.
- Frost-Crystal: Naturally occurring cold-resonant mineral used for storage, signaling, and controlled temperature regulation.
- Stone-Grain Moss: Slow-grown, nutrient-dense lichen cultivated in sheltered caverns. Food of last resort—and of honor.
- Deep-Sea Game: Leviathans, icefish, and shell-creatures hunted beneath the floes. Risk is assumed; reward is communal.
Kaal-Velk Rith
Paths of Heat and Sustenance
Roots: Kaal (heat, life), Velk (sustenance), Rith (path)
Trade exists only to stabilize survival margins. Exports are ration-surplus only, never future stock. Imports prioritize tools, navigational instruments, and materials that preserve heat or structure.
Heat is currency. Accounting is done in burn-hours, not coin. Coin exists only for interfacing with Elandor and external trade—and is regarded as an abstraction, not wealth.
Velkyn-Thurir
Endurance by Allocation
Status in Khazrath is measured by responsibility, not accumulation:
- Extractors and Hunters: Mostly White and Bronze Dragonborn. Earn first allocation and first blame.
- Regulators and Record-Keepers: Primarily Silver Dragonborn. Control ration law and dispute resolution.
- Dependents: The injured, the young, and the elderly are protected without shame.
Hoarding is a social crime. Waste is a moral one.
Thrym-Velk Pressure
Cold Shapes Consumption
Blizzards, shifting ice, and sea conditions directly alter quotas and law. Grauth Velkyn is seasonal, recalculated constantly. What was legal last winter may be theft this one.
Velkhar Deepstores
The Sustenance Vaults
Roots: Velk (sustenance), Kar (depth), Har (holding)
Ice-sealed caverns where oil, stone-grain moss, and frost-crystal are stored. Access is logged. Unauthorized entry is treated as attempted murder by negligence.
Inherited Tools
Tools are passed down, named, repaired, and recorded. A broken tool without cause requires explanation. Crafting new tools requires proof of need, not desire.
Kezrith Regulation Loop
Grauth Velkyn quietly feeds Kezrith Vael. When quotas tighten too hard, shadow paths expand. When shadow paths grow reckless, ration law hardens.
